Comic-actor Raju Srivastava dies at 58 in Delhi Hospital

Popular comedian Raju Srivastava, who dabbled in movies, made a mark as a stand-up comic and later entered politics, died on Wednesday after more than 40 days in hospital. He was 58.

Srivastava, who joined the BJP in 2014 after a stint with the Samajwadi Party, had a heart attack on August 10 while working out at a Delhi hotel. He was rushed to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) where he underwent an angioplasty procedure. He had been on the ventilator since and never regained consciousness.

"I got a call in the morning saying he is no more. It is really unfortunate news. He had been waging a struggle for life in hospital for over 40 days," his brother Dipoo Srivastava told PTI from Mumbai.

Raju Srivastava, counted as among the most high profile and experienced comics in the country, is survived by his wife and two children.

The artiste, who featured in Hindi films such as "Maine Pyar Kiya" and "Baazigar", was declared dead at 10.20 am, according to hospital sources.

He was chairperson of the Film Development Council Uttar Pradesh.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was among the first to pay his condolences.

"I am deeply saddened by the passing away of renowned comedian, Raju Srivastava ji. Apart from being an accomplished artist, he was also a very lively person. He was also very active in the social field. I extend my condolences to his bereaved family and fans. Shanti!," Singh tweeted.

The entertainment fraternity also paid tribute.

"Raju Srivastava Om Shanti RIP," wrote veteran filmmaker Rakesh Roshan on Instagram.

There will never be another Raju Srivastava, said comedian Rehman Khan.

"Raju Bhai Aap jaisa na koi tha na koi aayega , bahot yaad aaoge aap #RIP #rajusrivastava," he tweeted.

Actor Nimrat Kaur and director Sanjay Gupta remembered the comedian too.

"Deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Late Raju Srivastava ji. May God bless his journey into the light #RIPRajuSrivastava," Kaur tweeted.

"Rest In Peace Raju. Thank you for all these years of fun and laughter," said Gupta.

A familiar face in the entertainment industry since the 1980s, the comedian tasted unparalleled success after participating in the first season of the reality stand-up comedy show "The Great Indian Laughter Challenge" in 2005.

आधिकारिक सूचना के अनुसार, क्लर्क पदों पर आवेदन करने वाले पुरुषों की आयु 21 से 37 साल के बीच होनी चाहिए। वहीं महिला कैटेगिरी के उम्मीदवारों को इस पद के लिए 21 से 40 साल के बीच होनी चाहिए। स्टेनोग्राफर के पद पर आवेदन करने वाले पुरुषों की आयु 21 से 37 साल के बीच होनी चाहिए। वहीं महिला के पद पर आवेदन करने वाले उम्मीदवारों की आयु 21 से 40 साल के बीच होनी चाहिए। इसी तरह कोर्ट रीडर-कम-डिपोजिशन राइटर पद के लिए आवेदन करने वाले उम्मीदवारों की आयु भी यही मांगी गई है। इसके अलावा, चपरासी के पद पर आवेदन करने वाले मेल उम्मीदवारों की आयु 18 से 37 साल के बीच होनी चाहिए। वहीं फीमेल कैटेगिरी में यह उम्र 18 से 40 साल मांगी गई है।

राहुल गांधी ने बड़ी घोषणा करते हुए कहा कि गुजरात में पुरानी पेंशन व्यवस्था बहाल की जाएगी। राहुल ने मंगलवार को एक ट्वीट कर पेंशन व्यवस्था को लेकर भाजपा पर निशाना भी साधा।

राहुल गांधी ने ट्वीट कर कहा, ‘भाजपा ने पुरानी पेंशन को खत्म कर बुज़ुर्गों को आत्मनिर्भर से निर्भर बना दिया। पुरानी पेंशन सरकारी कर्मचारियों का हक है।’ कांग्रेस नेता ने आगे कहा कि राजस्थान और छत्तीसगढ़ की तरह गुजरात में कांग्रेस की सरकार बनने पर पुरानी पेंशन व्यवस्था बहाल की जाएगी।

The security environment in our neighbourhood remains far from ideal, Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari said on Tuesday, stressing upon the need to complement India's economic progress with a mirroring trajectory of homegrown military capabilities.

Noting that the country is faced with a wide variety of threats, the Air Chief Marshal said the distinct challenge lies in the convergence into hybrid wars and the country must prepare for such a warfare.

"The impact of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine is being felt the world over. The world is staring at an economic recession, with many smaller countries already facing the brunt of political and economic instability caused by hyperinflation. In this environment, India continues to be an outlier as our economy has shown a robust recovery," he said at the India Defence Conclave here.

"The security environment in our neighbourhood remains far from ideal. Therefore, our economic progress needs to be complemented by a mirroring trajectory of homegrown military capabilities. Rapid economic growth has allowed countries to invest heavily into military technology and associated research and development," he added.

The Air Chief Marshal noted that there have been attempts by various power centres to enhance their outreach in vulnerable and vacated spaces in economic, technological, and military domains.

"India, as a responsible power, is committed to enhancing cooperation and collaboration with the objectives of sustainability, inclusiveness, economic growth and security," he said.

Chaudhari stressed that given the political scenario prevalent today, it is important for the Indian Air Force to enhance its capabilities across the conventional, sub-conventional and non-conventional domains.

"As we speak, new technologies, platforms, weapons, systems, and forms of warfare are being conceptualised, which have the potential of making the existing inventory less relevant or even redundant. Our adversaries have developed full spectrum capabilities across multiple domains, which can be brought to bear upon us in case of any escalation, or even in a no war no peace situation.

"Today, we are faced with a wide variety of threats, but a distinct challenge lies in the convergence into hybrid wars. To counter such threats, we need to build and maintain a technological edge over our adversaries and prepare for hybrid warfare. This makes indigenous research and development and production wait of platforms, sensors, weapons or networking, very critical for future capability building," he said.

टी20 वर्ल्ड कप 2022 के लिए 15 सदस्यीय भारतीय टीम का ऐलान सोमवार को कर दिया गया। मो. शमी को भी टीम में स्टैंड बाय के तौर पर आस्ट्रेलिया की तेज पिच को देखते हुए शामिल करने का फैसला किया गया। हालांकि शमी ने टी20 वर्ल्ड कप 2021 के बाद से भारत के लिए एक भी टी20 मैच नहीं खेला था। माना जा रहा है कि शमी आस्ट्रेलिया की पिच  पर विरोधी बल्लेबाजों के लिए घातक साबित हो सकते हैं। वहीं दीपक चाहर को भी वर्ल्ड कप की कोर टीम में जगह नहीं दी गई। वो एशिया कप 2022 की टीम में भी स्टैंड बाय के तौर पर शामिल किए गए थे, लेकिन बाद में आवेश खान के टीम से बाहर होने के बाद उन्हें मुख्य टीम में शामिल कर लिया गया था।

भारतीय मुख्य टीम में कई स्पिनर जैसे कि अक्षर पटेल, युजवेंद्रा चहल, आर अश्विन शामिल हैं, लेकिन रवि बिश्नोई को स्टैंड बाय खिलाड़ियों में रखा गया है। रवि बिश्नोई को एशिया कप में कुच मैचों में मौका मिला था जिसमें उन्होंने प्रभावित किया था। वहीं मध्यक्र के धाकड़ बल्लेबाज श्रेयस अय्यर को भी इन चार खिलाड़ियों में शामिल किया गया। अब आइसीसी रूल के मुताबिक अगर कोर टीम से कोई खिलाड़ी बाहर होता है तो स्टैंड बाय खिलाड़ी उसे रिप्लेस कर सकते हैं।

Ayodhya (UP), Sep 12 (PTI) : An estimated cost of Rs 1,800 crore will be incurred to build the Ram temple in Ayodhya, officials of the trust responsible for the construction of the structure has said.

The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, formed on the Supreme Court's orders for the construction of the temple, approved its rules and manual after a marathon meeting here on Sunday.

At the meeting held at the Faizabad Circuit House, the trust members also unanimously decided to make space for idols of prominent Hindu seers in the temple complex. The trust has estimated an expenditure of Rs 1,800 crore for the construction of the Ram temple only, based on a report filed by experts.

The general secretary of the trust, Champat Rai, said after long contemplation and suggestions from everyone concerned, the rules and bye-laws of the trust were finalised at the meeting.

The trust has also decided to make space for idols of prominent Hindu seers and the main characters from the Ramayana period in the temple complex, he added.

Rai said 14 of the 15 trust members attended the meeting.

Construction committee chairman Nripendra Mishra, trust chairman Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, treasurer Govind Dev Giri, member Udupi Peethadheeshwar Vishwatirtha Prasannacharya, Dr Anil Mishra, Mahant Dinendra Das, Kameshwar Chaupal and ex-officio member District Magistrate Nitish Kumar were among those who were present physically, while Keshav Parasharan, Yugpurush Parmanand, Vimalendra Mohan Pratap Mishra and ex-officio member state Principal Secretary, Home, Sanjay Kumar participated virtually.

The construction of the temple is expected to be completed by December 2023 and Lord Ram is expected to be seated in the sanctum sanctorum by the Makar Sankranti festival in January 2024, Rai said.

Bhopal, Sep 13 (PTI): A three-and-a-half-year-old nursery student was raped allegedly by her school bus driver inside the vehicle in Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal, a police official said on Tuesday.

The police have arrested the bus driver and a woman attendant who, according to the child's parents, was present inside the vehicle when the incident took place last Thursday, the official said.

The child, studying in a leading private school in the city, was returning home in the bus when the offence took place. When the girl returned, her mother found someone had changed the child's clothes with the spare set kept in her bag, the official said. The mother then enquired with her daughter's class teacher and also the school principal, but both of them denied having changed the child's clothes.

The child later complained of pain in her private parts. Her parents took her into confidence and counselled her, following which she informed them that the bus driver abused her and also changed her clothes, the police official said. The parents went to the school the next day to complain to the authorities and the child identified the driver, the official said.

The girl's parents filed a police complaint on Monday following which a probe was launched into it, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nidhi Saxena said. At the time of the incident, a woman attendant was present inside the bus, as per the complaint filed by the child's parents, the police said. The bus driver and the woman attendant have been arrested, the ACP said.

A case has been registered under Indian Penal Code Section 376-AB (rape of a woman under 12 years of age) and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, she said. The police are trying to find out the exact spot where the incident took place, she said. The victim's medical report is awaited, the official said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said INS Vikrant is an example of Indian government's thrust to making its defence sector self-reliant and has made the country part of the select group of nations who can indigenously make aircraft carriers.

Modi also unveiled the Indian Navy's new ensign which drops the St George's Cross and incorporates the royal seal of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Addressing a large gathering at the commissioning ceremony of INS Vikrant, Modi said with the new ensign, the country has shed its colonial past.

Till today Indian Naval flags carried a sign of slavery which has been replaced with a new one inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, he said.

Modi also spoke about certain features of the aircraft carrier -- which he described as a floating airfield, a floating town -- and said that power generated in it can light up 5,000 houses.

"INS Vikrant is not a mere war machine but proof of India's skill and talent. It is special, different," Modi said and highlighted the indigenisation efforts behind the massive ship, including the steel that went into its making.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said the Aam Aadmi Party's vote share in Gujarat has increased by 4 per cent after CBI raids against his deputy Manish Sisodia.

This vote share will increase by 6 per cent if he is arrested, the AAP national convener said during a discussion on the confidence motion in the Delhi Assembly.

"The CBI raided Sisodia, went to his village and searched his bank locker. CBI people said they did not find anything against him but are under pressure to arrest him," Kejriwal claimed.

The prime minister has given a "certificate of honesty", he said.

"The AAP's vote share has increased by 4 per cent in Gujarat after CBI raids against Sisodia. It will increase by 6 per cent if he's arrested," the chief minister said.

Attacking the BJP, he said the saffron party leaders tried to buy AAP MLAs but none of his legislators accepted their offer.

"Absolutely corrupt party lacks educated people while 'hardcore honest' party has those with good education, genuine IIT degrees," he said in a veiled dig at the BJP.

"They are spending Rs 20-50 crore to buy MLAs. Am I doing anything wrong if I want to build schools and hospitals," he asked.

The AAP government had brought in a confidence motion on Monday to show that the BJP's 'Operation Lotus' had failed in Delhi.
